Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before departure
Apply for a Myanmar eVisa at the official Ministry of Immigration portal. Processing takes 3–5 working days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email. Print the letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw airports will stamp the visa on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
6 months validity required
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration at Yangon will deny boarding if your passport expires sooner.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Yangon International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready — they may deny entry without it.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Myanmar. Immigration may ask for your accommodation address during the entry interview, especially if you're arriving without a pre-booked tour.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $300 USD in cash or a bank statement showing sufficient funds for your stay. Myanmar immigration rarely asks for it, but budget airlines and some land border crossings may request proof.Recommended
eVisa only at certain airports
The eVisa is valid for entry at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw international airports only. If you arrive by land border, you need a different visa type.
Keep a printed copy of your eVisa
Immigration officers prefer a paper copy of your eVisa approval. Print it before you leave home — airport printing services may not be available.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport photo, and pay the fee (around $50 USD). Processing takes 3–5 business days. Print the approval letter.
2
Arrive at Myanmar airport
At Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw airport, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'eVisa' counters. Have your printed eVisa, passport, and return ticket ready. The officer will check your documents and stamp you in.
3
Show accommodation and onward ticket
Immigration may ask for your hotel booking and return ticket. Have them easily accessible — on your phone or printed. If asked, explain your plans briefly.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items.
