What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa online
Go to evisa.mae.ro/en, create an account, fill out the application form, and upload required documents (passport scan, photo, travel itinerary). Pay the visa fee (around €80 for a short-stay visa).
2
Attend embassy appointment
After submitting online, book an appointment at the Romanian Embassy in Hanoi. Bring your original passport, printed application, photos, and all supporting documents. You'll be interviewed briefly.
3

Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can stretch to 45 days during peak periods. Track your application status online.
4
Collect your visa
Once approved, you'll receive a visa sticker in your passport. Collect it in person or arrange courier delivery (if offered). Check the visa validity dates carefully.
5
Arrive in Romania
At Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport (OTP) or any other entry point, join the 'All Passports' queue. Present your passport with the visa sticker, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The officer may ask about your plans — answer clearly.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing is 15 calendar days, but it can take up to 45 days during busy periods (summer, holidays). Apply at least 6–8 weeks before your trip.
No. You must submit the initial application online at evisa.mae.ro/en, but you still need to attend an in-person appointment at the Romanian Embassy in Hanoi to submit your passport and biometrics.
A short-stay Schengen visa (type C) costs €80 (about 2,100,000 VND). Fees are non-refundable even if your application is rejected.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may be fined, banned from entering the Schengen area for up to 5 years, or both. Always leave before your visa expires.
If you're transiting through a Romanian airport to a non-Schengen country and staying airside, you generally do not need a visa. But if you need to enter Romania (e.g., to switch airports or stay overnight), you need a visa.
Extensions are not available for short-stay visas. You must leave before the visa expires. For longer stays, apply for a long-stay visa (type D) before traveling.
Bring your original passport (with at least 2 blank pages), printed visa application form, 2 recent passport-sized photos, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, travel insurance, bank statements from the last 3 months, and a cover letter explaining your trip purpose.
