Have your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Officers may ask for it during the visa application process or at the border.Recommended

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather your passport (valid 6+ months), a recent passport-sized photo, completed visa application form, flight itinerary, hotel booking, and bank statements. Make copies of everything.
2
Submit your visa application online
Go to visa.go.kr, create an account, fill in the application form, and upload the required documents. Pay the visa fee online (around $40–$60 depending on type).
3
Attend your in-person appointment
Book an appointment at the Korean Embassy in Pretoria or the Consulate in Cape Town. Bring your printed application, original documents, and passport. The officer may ask about your travel plans.
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 5–7 working days. You can track the status online. Once approved, you'll receive a visa sticker in your passport.
5
Arrive at Incheon or Gimhae Airport
At immigration, present your passport with the visa sticker, your return ticket, and your accommodation booking. The officer will stamp you in. Keep your arrival card stub — you'll need it when you leave.
