What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Schengen visa at the Norwegian embassy or VFS Global
Book an appointment at the VFS Global centre in Pretoria or Cape Town. Submit your application form, passport, photos, travel insurance, flight and hotel bookings, and bank statements. Pay the fee (€80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12, free for under-6s). Give biometrics (photo + fingerprints). Processing takes 15–30 calendar days.
2
Wait for visa decision and collect your passport
You will be notified when your passport is ready. If approved, the visa sticker will be in your passport. Check the validity dates and number of entries (single or multiple). If rejected, you will receive a reason and can appeal within 30 days.
3
Arrive at a Norwegian airport (Oslo Gardermoen, Bergen, etc.)
Join the queue for non-EU/EEA passports. Have your passport, visa, return ticket, and accommodation booking ready. The officer may ask about your trip purpose and funds. Answer clearly. You will get an entry stamp — check it matches your visa dates.
