Zambian passport holders need a visa to enter Thailand in 2026. You must apply in advance through the official Thai e-Visa system before you travel. This page covers the standard tourist visa requirements and what to expect at immigration.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need a visa to enter Thailand. Apply online at the official Thailand eVisa portal at least 2 weeks before your trip. Upload your passport scan, photo, flight itinerary, and hotel booking — processing takes 5–10 business days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Zambian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Thailand. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Strictly enforced
Immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. Budget airlines often check this before issuing a boarding pass.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a confirmed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Thailand ready. Immigration may ask for your accommodation address during the interview at the eVisa stage or on arrival.Recommended
Proof of funds
20,000 THB per person
Carry at least 20,000 THB (or equivalent in foreign currency) per person, or 40,000 THB per family. Immigration can ask to see cash, bank statements, or traveler's cheques — though this is rare for eVisa holders.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)TDAC: Thailand Digital Arrival Card — a free 2-minute online pre-registration at tdac.immigration.go.th. Not mandatory, but gets you through the immigration queue faster.
Optional pre-registration
Register online at the TDAC portal before your flight. It takes 2 minutes and gives you a QR code that speeds up your immigration queue at major airports. Not mandatory, but saves time.Register on TDACOptional
Apply early — don't risk it
The e-Visa can take up to 2 weeks to process. Do not book non-refundable flights until you have the approved visa in hand. Last-minute applications can cause delays.
TDAC saves time
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is free and optional, but completing it online before you fly can cut your immigration queue time significantly. Do it at tdac.immigration.go.th.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your e-Visa
Go to thaievisa.go.th, create an account, fill out the application, upload your documents (passport scan, photo, flight itinerary, hotel booking), and pay the fee. Processing takes 3–5 business days, sometimes longer. Apply at least 2 weeks before your trip.
2
Pack your documents
Print or save digital copies of your approved e-Visa, passport, return ticket, hotel booking, and insurance. Keep them together in a folder or on your phone.
3
Arrive at the airport in Thailand
At Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Phuket (HKT), follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. Hand over your passport, e-Visa printout (or show on phone), and boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in. Expect a short queue.
4
Complete the TDAC (optional but recommended)
Before you land, fill out the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card at tdac.immigration.go.th. It's not mandatory, but it can speed up the immigration line. Show the QR code on your phone when asked.
