Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay in Germany
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Germany. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by German law, but airlines may enforce a 3-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at German airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. A flight booking or bus/rail ticket out of Schengen works. Without it, you risk being denied boarding or entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel reservation for your entire stay, or a formal invitation letter from a host in Germany. Border officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
German law requires you to have at least €45 per day of stay (or a total of €1,350 for a 30-day trip). Have a bank statement, credit card, or cash ready. Officers rarely check this for UAE passport holders, but it's a legal requirement.Recommended
90-day limit is strict
The 90-day visa-free period resets only after you leave the Schengen Area for 90 consecutive days. You cannot 'reset' by a quick trip to London or Switzerland. Track your days carefully.
Schengen Area includes more than Germany
Your 90 days count across all 27 Schengen countries. A day spent in France, Italy, or Spain counts toward your 90-day limit. Use the Schengen calculator on the EU website to track your stay.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at German border control
At any German airport (Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, etc.), join the 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU' queue. Have your passport ready. The officer will check your passport, ask about the purpose and length of your stay, and may ask for your return ticket or accommodation proof. The process usually takes 1-2 minutes.
2
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp marks the start of your 90-day visa-free period. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After passing immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There are no additional forms or fees for visa-free entry.
