Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure from the Schengen area
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from the Schengen zone. It must have been issued within the last 10 years. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Czech airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel — a return flight, a flight to a non-Schengen country, or a bus/train ticket out of the Schengen zone. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Budget airlines often check this at check-in too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from a host with their address and contact details. Immigration may ask for it at the border, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. Czech immigration rarely asks for this for short visits, but having a printed statement avoids delays. No minimum amount is officially published.Recommended
Schengen area rules
The Czech Republic is part of the Schengen area. Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to all 27 Schengen countries combined. Keep track of your days — overstaying in any country affects your entire Schengen access.
Passport validity counts from entry, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in the Czech Republic. If it expires sooner, you may be denied boarding by the airline or entry by immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry). Print or save digital copies of your return ticket, hotel booking, and insurance. Download an eSIM or arrange a local SIM.
2
Arrive at Prague Václav Havel Airport (or other entry point)
Follow signs to 'Non-EU Passports' or 'All Passports'. Join the queue for non-Schengen arrivals. Have your passport and supporting documents ready.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and when you leave. Answer briefly and honestly. They may stamp your passport without further questions.
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel. If you have nothing to declare, use the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel. Then exit into the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits. Remote work for a foreign employer is technically not allowed. If you need to work, apply for a digital nomad visa or a work permit.
You cannot extend the visa-free stay. You must leave the Schengen area before day 90. For longer stays, apply for a long-term visa or residence permit at the Czech embassy in the UAE before travel.
If you stay in a hotel, they register you automatically. If staying in private accommodation, you must register with the Foreign Police within 3 working days. Your host can usually do this online.
Yes. The 90-day limit applies to the entire Schengen area, not just the Czech Republic. If you enter via Germany, for example, you still count days across all Schengen countries.
Overstaying can result in a fine (typically €100-500), a ban from re-entering the Schengen area, and deportation. Always leave before day 90.
No, it is not a legal requirement for entry. However, it is strongly recommended because medical costs in the Czech Republic can be expensive — a hospital stay can cost hundreds of euros per day. A basic policy covering medical emergencies and repatriation is wise.
Yes. The 90-day limit applies to the entire Schengen area. You can travel freely between member countries as long as you don't exceed 90 days total in any 180-day period.
