Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay in Hungary
Your UAE passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Hungary. Schengen rules don't require 6 months beyond departure, but airlines sometimes enforce it — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at Budapest Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket showing you'll leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. A flight booking to any non-Schengen country works — have it ready on your phone or printed.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying — have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact details. A simple Booking.com printout is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Hungary doesn't publish a fixed amount, but having around €100 per day in cash or a bank statement helps. I've seen officers ask for it at Budapest Airport when travellers looked under-prepared.Recommended
90-day limit applies to the entire Schengen area
Your 90 visa-free days count across all 27 Schengen countries, not just Hungary. If you've already spent time in France or Germany earlier in the year, that time counts toward your 90-day limit. Use the EU's short-stay calculator to track your days.
Keep digital copies of your documents
Save screenshots of your passport info page, return ticket, and accommodation booking on your phone. If your phone is lost or stolen, store copies in cloud storage (Google Drive, iCloud) for backup.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Budapest Airport (BUD) or other Schengen entry point
You'll enter Hungary through Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport or another Schengen border. Join the 'Non-EU' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready.
2
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and return date. Answer briefly and honestly. They may stamp your passport with the entry date.
3
Collect luggage and proceed to arrivals
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel. There's no customs declaration for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
