Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Croatia. Croatia enforces the 90/180-day Schengen rule strictly — you cannot stay more than 90 days in any 180-day window across all Schengen countries.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Zagreb and Split airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from your host. Border officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least €100 per day of your stay (or equivalent in cash, cards, or bank statements). Officers rarely check, but they can ask at entry.Recommended
Schengen 90/180-day rule
Your 90-day visa-free stay applies across all Schengen countries, not just Croatia. Keep track of your days — overstaying even by one day can lead to fines and a re-entry ban.
No visa needed for UAE passport holders
UAE passport holders enjoy visa-free access to Croatia for stays up to 90 days. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of your flight booking, hotel confirmation, and travel insurance to your phone. No need to print anything — digital copies are accepted.
2
Arrive at Croatian border control
At the airport (Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, etc.) or land border, join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you are staying, and return ticket. Answer clearly and briefly. They will stamp your passport with the entry date.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp starts your 90-day Schengen clock. Check the stamp before leaving the counter — if it is illegible or missing, ask for a clear one. Keep your boarding pass and accommodation details handy for the first few days in case of random checks.
