Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date from the Schengen area
Your passport needs at least 3 months of validity after your planned exit from the Schengen zone. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at Schiphol Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket within the 90-day visa-free limit. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check dates carefully.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Border officers may ask where you're staying for the first few nights. A hotel confirmation or a signed invitation from your host with their address is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash showing you can support yourself
You should have at least €55 per day of your stay available. A recent bank statement or a credit card with sufficient limit works — they rarely ask, but it's a formal requirement.Recommended
90-day limit applies to the entire Schengen area
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for all 27 Schengen countries combined, not just the Netherlands. If you spend 30 days in France, 30 in Germany, and 30 in the Netherlands, you've used up your 90 days. Track your days carefully — overstaying can lead to fines and entry bans.
Entry may be refused even with a valid passport
Immigration officers can deny entry if they suspect you'll overstay, work illegally, or don't have enough funds. Always carry proof of your return ticket, accommodation, and sufficient funds. Answer questions honestly and briefly.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Make sure your passport has 6+ months validity and at least 1 blank page. Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of your flight booking, hotel confirmation, and travel insurance on your phone.
2
Arrive at the airport in the Netherlands
You'll land at Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) or another Dutch airport. Follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'EU/EEA/Switzerland' — as a UAE passport holder, you use the 'All Passports' lane.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and when you're leaving. Answer clearly and briefly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or accommodation proof.
4
Get your entry stamp and proceed
If everything is fine, the officer stamps your passport with the entry date and the number of days allowed (usually 90). Collect your luggage and exit the arrivals area.
