Emirati passport holders need a visa to enter the United Kingdom. You must apply and receive approval before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival or eTA option for UAE nationals in 2026. Plan ahead, as processing can take several weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Apply early — processing can take weeks
Standard UK visa processing from the UAE often takes 3–6 weeks. Don't book non-refundable flights or hotels until your visa is approved. Priority services are available but cost extra.
Biometric appointment is mandatory
You must attend in person at a UK Visa Application Centre in Abu Dhabi or Dubai to give fingerprints and a photo. You cannot skip this step.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a UK visa online
Go to gov.uk/apply-uk-visa and fill out the Standard Visitor visa application. You'll need to create an account, answer questions about your trip, and pay the fee (around £115 for a 6-month visitor visa as of 2026).
2
Book and attend a biometric appointment
After submitting your online application, book an appointment at a UK Visa Application Centre. In the UAE, centres are in Abu Dhabi (Al Masaood Tower) and Dubai (Wafi Mall). Bring your passport, appointment confirmation, and supporting documents. They'll take your photo and fingerprints.
3
Submit your passport and documents
At the appointment, hand over your passport and any required documents (bank statements, itinerary, hotel bookings). The centre will keep your passport for processing.
4
Wait for a decision
Standard processing takes 3–6 weeks. You can pay extra for priority (5 working days) or super-priority (next working day) if available. You'll get an email when a decision is made.
5
Collect your passport with the visa vignette
Once approved, collect your passport from the centre or have it couriered to you. The visa vignette will be stuck inside. Check the dates — it's valid from the start date shown.
6
Travel to the UK
At UK border control (e.g., Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester), join the 'All Other Passports' queue. Have your passport with the vignette, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. The officer may ask about your plans — answer honestly and briefly.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. All Emirati citizens must obtain a visa before travelling to the UK. There is no visa waiver or visa-on-arrival for UAE nationals.
You need a Standard Visitor visa. It allows stays up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family, or short business trips. The fee is approximately £115 (as of 2026).
Standard processing takes 3–6 weeks. Priority service (5 working days) costs extra, and super-priority (next working day) is available in some cases. Apply well in advance of your travel date.
You apply online first, then attend a biometric appointment at a UK Visa Application Centre. Centres are in Abu Dhabi (Al Masaood Tower, Tourist Club Area) and Dubai (Wafi Mall, Umm Hurair Road).
Standard Visitor visas are not extendable for tourism. If you need to stay longer for other reasons (e.g., medical treatment or study), you must apply for a different visa category before your current visa expires.
You'll need a valid passport (6+ months validity), a completed online application, a recent passport photo, bank statements (last 3–6 months), proof of accommodation, a return flight booking, and a cover letter explaining your trip. Additional documents may be requested.
A UK visa only allows entry to the UK. It does not grant access to Ireland or other countries. You'll need separate visas for those destinations if required.
