Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Sweden. Sweden does not enforce the 6-month validity rule for Argentine passport holders — just make sure it covers your travel dates.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Arlanda and other Schengen entry points routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking out of the Schengen zone within 90 days.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or an invitation letter from your host in Sweden. Border officers sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 450 SEK per day of your stay. Officers rarely ask for it, but it's better to have it ready.Recommended
90-day limit applies to all Schengen countries
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for the entire Schengen Area, not just Sweden. If you've already spent 30 days in Italy, you only have 60 days left for Sweden. Keep track using the Schengen calculator app.
No visa needed, but always carry your passport
Sweden has no internal border checks within Schengen, but police can ask for ID at any time. Always carry your passport or a photocopy. A driver's license is not accepted as proof of identity for non-EU citizens.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Swedish border control
At Arlanda Airport (Stockholm) or any other entry point, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask about your trip purpose and length of stay.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, state clearly: 'Tourism' or 'Visiting friends' and the number of days you plan to stay. Keep your return ticket and accommodation confirmation easily accessible in your phone or bag.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp marks the start of your 90-day Schengen stay. Check the stamp before walking away — if it's missing or unclear, ask for clarification.
4
Exit the baggage claim area
After clearing immigration, collect your luggage and proceed through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now free to enter Sweden.

No, Sweden does not allow visa-free extensions for tourism. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a residence permit before your 90 days expire. Overstaying can result in fines or a re-entry ban.
No, Argentine passport holders do not need a transit visa for Sweden. You can stay in the international transit area without a visa, but you must have a confirmed onward ticket and a valid visa for your final destination if required.
You must leave the Schengen Area before your passport expires. Even if your 90-day stay isn't up, an expired passport invalidates your visa-free entry. Contact the Argentine embassy in Stockholm for an emergency passport if needed.
No, the visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or visiting family only. Remote work for a foreign employer is technically not allowed. If you plan to work, you need a work permit. However, short-term business activities like attending conferences are fine.
