Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay in Norway
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Norway. Schengen rules do not require 6 months of validity beyond departure, but your airline may enforce it — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Oslo Gardermoen and other Schengen entry points routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host with their address and contact details ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. A bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 500 NOK per day of your trip is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Norway. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you travel. Border officers can deny entry if your passport doesn't meet this requirement.
Schengen area rules apply
Norway is part of the Schengen zone. Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to the entire Schengen area, not just Norway. Days spent in other Schengen countries count toward your 90-day limit.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Norwegian Border
At Oslo Gardermoen or other airports, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask about your plans.
2
Present Documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket and accommodation booking. Answer questions briefly and honestly — they're checking you're a genuine visitor.
3
Get Entry Stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp is correct before walking away.
4
Collect Luggage and Exit
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. There are no additional visa checks.
