Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before departure
Belgian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Kenya. Apply online at the official Kenya eTA portal — the process takes about 15 minutes and costs around $30 USD. Approval usually comes within 2-3 business days, but apply at least a week before your flight to be safe.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
6 months validity
Your Belgian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Kenya. Immigration at JKIA checks this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding in Brussels.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Kenya immigration routinely asks for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed copy or a screenshot on your phone showing your flight out of Kenya within the eVisa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from a host ready. A printed copy avoids fumbling with your phone at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
At least $500 USD equivalent
Carry proof you can support yourself during your stay — a bank statement from the last month or a credit card with a decent limit works. Immigration rarely asks, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival — apply early
Kenya stopped issuing visas on arrival for most nationalities. You must have your eVisa approved before you fly. Apply at least a week in advance to avoid last-minute stress.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Kenya, not from when you apply for the visa. If it's close to expiring, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Kenya eVisa website (etakenya.go.ke). Fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $34 USD for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing takes 2–5 business days, sometimes faster.
2
Print or save your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get a PDF. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in for your flight and at immigration in Nairobi or Mombasa.
3
Arrive at JKIA or Moi International Airport
At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi) or Moi International Airport (Mombasa), follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for 'Visitors with eVisa'. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 30 seconds.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. You may be asked to show your customs declaration form (if you have goods to declare). Otherwise, walk through the green channel and you're in Kenya.

Frequently asked questions

No. As of 2026, Kenya does not offer visa-on-arrival for Belgian citizens. You must apply for an eVisa online before you travel.
A single-entry tourist eVisa costs about $34 USD (roughly €31). You pay online by credit card during the application. There are no additional fees at the airport.
Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. Apply at least a week before your flight to be safe. Some applications are approved within 24 hours, but don't count on it.
The standard tourist eVisa allows a stay of up to 90 days. You cannot extend it beyond that — you'd need to leave and re-enter if you want to stay longer.
If you're arriving from a country with yellow fever (or have transited through one for more than 12 hours), you'll need to show a yellow fever certificate. Belgium is not a risk country, so you won't need it if you're flying directly from Belgium. Check the latest requirements before you go.
Rejections are rare for Belgian passport holders. If it happens, you'll usually get a reason (e.g., missing documents). You can reapply with corrected information. Contact the Kenya High Commission in Brussels if you need help.
Yes, the eVisa is valid for entry at any Kenyan airport or land border. Just make sure you have the printed approval with you.
