Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready. Without one, you may be refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have on hand
Officers rarely ask for hotel bookings, but having a printed confirmation for your first few nights helps if questioned. If you are trekking, a copy of your TIMS card or trekking permit also works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to have on hand
You are not required to show bank statements, but carrying around $200–$300 in cash (USD or EUR) covers the visa fee and initial expenses. ATMs are common in Kathmandu but unreliable in remote areas.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival counter does not accept credit or debit cards. Bring USD, EUR, or NPR in cash. ATMs are available after you clear immigration, but not before.
Visa on arrival is straightforward
The process at Kathmandu airport is well-organized. Use the self-service kiosks to save time. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation details handy.
