Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it printed saves time if they do. Airbnb bookings are accepted.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely checks this for short stays, but budget airlines may ask at check-in.Recommended
eVisa is not extendable
You cannot extend your eVisa once in Vietnam. Plan your stay carefully and leave before it expires. Overstaying can result in fines and future entry bans.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnamese eVisa website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) and submit. Processing takes 3-5 working days. You'll receive a PDF approval letter by email.
2
Print the eVisa approval letter
Print the PDF approval letter on a plain A4 sheet. Keep it with your passport. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at the airport in Vietnam
At any international airport in Vietnam (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, etc.), go to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport and the printed eVisa. The officer will stamp you in. No visa-on-arrival queue needed.
4
Show your return ticket and accommodation
Immigration may ask to see your onward ticket and first night hotel booking. Have them ready on your phone or printed. Answer clearly and confidently.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim and customs. You're now legally in Vietnam. Enjoy your trip.
