Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay in Schengen area
Your Brazilian passport needs to be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen zone. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Athens airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines often refuse boarding without one — have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying for the first few nights. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their Greek address and phone number ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Officers can ask for bank statements or cash to confirm you have at least €50 per day of your stay. A credit card with a reasonable limit usually satisfies them.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding — no exceptions.
Schengen 90/180-day rule
The 90-day visa-free stay is calculated across all Schengen countries. Use the EU's online calculator to track your days. Overstaying even by one day can trigger a re-entry ban.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Print or save digital copies of your passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep them in your carry-on, not checked luggage.
2
Arrive at Greek border control
At Athens International Airport or any other port of entry, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and supporting documents ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and ask about your stay purpose. Answer briefly and honestly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry. This stamp records your 90-day allowance. Do not lose it — you'll need it to prove you haven't overstayed.
