Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
ETA-IL applicationETA-IL: Israel's Electronic Travel Authorisation, mandatory for all visa-exempt nationals since August 2024. Apply free at israel-entry.piba.gov.il — usually approved instantly.
Electronic Travel Authorisation
Apply for your ETA-IL at israel-entry.piba.gov.il before you fly. It's free and most applicants get approval instantly. You need this even if you're just transiting through Ben Gurion Airport.Apply for ETA-ILRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for duration of stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Israel. No 6-month rule here — just cover your stay. Airlines sometimes enforce their own rules, so check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Ben Gurion regularly ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep your hotel confirmation or a letter from your host handy. Border officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but if they do, showing you have enough for your stay (around 1,500 ILS per week) avoids delays.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Israel, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew before you go.
No visa extensions available
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. Plan your trip to leave before day 90 to avoid fines or a re-entry ban.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV)
Most travelers fly into Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport. Follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for Israeli citizens and foreigners. Join the 'Foreign Passports' line.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and return ticket if asked. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, where you're staying, and how long you plan to stay. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a visitor visa valid for up to 90 days. Check the stamp says 'Visitor' and the date is correct. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
