Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay in Norway
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Norway. Norway is part of the Schengen zone, so the 90-day limit applies across all Schengen countries combined, not per country.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Norwegian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or an invitation letter from a host in Norway. Border officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Have bank statements or a credit card ready. Norwegian immigration expects roughly 500 NOK per day of stay, though they rarely ask for it if you have a return ticket and accommodation booked.Recommended
Schengen 90/180-day rule
Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to the entire Schengen Area, not just Norway. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries (e.g., France, Germany), those days count toward your 90-day limit. Keep track using the Schengen calculator.
Entry may be at any Schengen border
You can enter Norway directly or via another Schengen country (e.g., Germany, Netherlands). The first Schengen country you enter will stamp your passport. The 90-day clock starts from that first entry.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Norwegian border control
At Oslo Gardermoen or any other Schengen entry point, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport ready. The officer will check your passport validity, may ask about your trip purpose, and stamp your passport.
2
Present supporting documents if asked
If the officer asks, show your return ticket, accommodation booking, and proof of funds. Answer clearly and briefly. Most Brazilian visitors get through without any documents beyond the passport.
3
Receive entry stamp and proceed
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. You are now allowed to stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period in the Schengen Area. Collect your luggage and exit.

Frequently asked questions

You can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This is the standard Schengen Area rule. The 90 days count all days spent in any Schengen country, not just Norway.
No, the visa-free stay is not extendable for tourism. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a residence permit or a national visa before your 90 days expire. Overstaying can result in fines and a re-entry ban.
If you stay airside and do not pass through passport control, you do not need a visa. But if you need to enter Norway (e.g., to switch airports or stay overnight), you must meet the same visa-free requirements.
You may be denied boarding or entry. Airlines are strict about the 6-month validity rule. Renew your passport before traveling.
It is not legally required for visa-free entry, but it is strongly recommended. Medical costs in Norway are high, and insurance covers emergencies and repatriation. Some airlines may ask for proof of insurance.
No, visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits only. You cannot work or study without the appropriate permit. If you plan to work, apply for a work visa before traveling.
Have your passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and proof of funds ready. Keep digital copies on your phone and printed backups in your bag. Immigration officers rarely ask for all of them, but it's better to be prepared.
