Brazilian passport holders can visit Sweden for tourism or business stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. This applies to all 27 Schengen countries, allowing free movement across the bloc. As of 2026, you need a valid passport, proof of onward travel, and enough funds for your stay.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Brazilian passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Sweden. Sweden does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but your airline might enforce this — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at Arlanda and other Swedish ports of entry routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. This can be a flight, train, or ferry ticket out of the Schengen zone. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Swedish border officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from a friend/host with their address is enough. Keep it accessible on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
You should be able to demonstrate at least 450 SEK per day of your stay (around 40 USD). A bank statement, credit card, or cash works. I've rarely seen this checked for Brazilians, but have it ready.Recommended
Schengen 90/180-day rule
Your 90-day visa-free stay resets only after you've been outside the Schengen area for 90 consecutive days. If you leave after 30 days and return the next week, you still have 60 days left — but the clock keeps running. Use the EU's online calculator to track your days.
ETIAS coming in 2026
Starting mid-2026, Brazilian passport holders will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorisation before flying to Sweden or any Schengen country. It costs €7, is valid for 3 years, and takes minutes to apply online. No visa required — just a quick pre-screening.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at passport control
At Arlanda (Stockholm), Landvetter (Gothenburg), or any Swedish airport, join the 'Non-EU' queue. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask about your trip purpose and funds.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, explain your travel plans (tourism, business meetings, visiting friends). Keep your return ticket and accommodation confirmation accessible — they may request to see them.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the number of days allowed (usually 90). Check the stamp before walking away. If it's wrong, ask for correction immediately.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's no separate visa check. You're now free to travel within the Schengen area.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free limit is fixed for the Schengen area. You cannot extend it from within Sweden. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a residence permit before your 90 days expire — this requires a valid reason like work or study. Overstaying can result in fines or a re-entry ban.
No, for stays under 90 days. If you plan to stay longer (e.g., for work or study), you must register with the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) and get a residence permit card. For short visits, no registration is needed.
No problem. Your 90-day allowance applies to the entire Schengen area (27 countries). You can move freely between them without additional visas. Just keep your passport with you — border checks are rare but possible.
No. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond entry and in good condition. A torn page, water damage, or a missing chip (if biometric) can get you denied boarding. Replace it before travel.
Overstaying is a violation of Schengen rules. You may be fined (typically €100–€300), banned from re-entering the Schengen area for up to 3 years, or both. Always leave before your 90 days expire.
No, if you stay airside (don't pass through passport control) and your layover is under 24 hours. If you need to enter Sweden (e.g., to switch airports or stay overnight), the same visa-free rules apply — you can enter for up to 90 days.
Yes. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits only. For paid work, study, or long-term stays, you must apply for a residence permit from the Swedish Migration Agency before traveling. Processing takes 1–4 months.
