Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Colombian passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in France. France does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may still ask for it — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at French airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines sometimes check this at check-in too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host in France. Border officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least €65 per day of your stay. Officers rarely ask for it for short trips, but it helps if you're staying longer or have no return ticket.Recommended
90-day limit applies to all Schengen countries
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for the entire Schengen area (27 European countries). If you spend 30 days in Spain, then 60 in France, you've used your 90 days. You must leave the Schengen area for 90 days before returning.
ETIAS coming soon
Starting in 2027, Colombian passport holders will need an ETIAS travel authorization before flying to France. It's a quick online application (€7, valid 3 years). No changes yet for 2026 travel.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before you fly
Check your passport is valid for 6+ months from entry. Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at French border control
At Charles de Gaulle, Orly, or any French airport, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will ask your purpose of stay and length of visit.
3
Present documents if asked
If the officer asks, show your return ticket and accommodation booking. They rarely ask for proof of funds, but have a bank statement or credit card handy just in case.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter. Keep your passport safe during your trip.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is strictly 90 days within any 180-day period. You cannot extend it from within France. For longer stays (work, study, family reunion), you must apply for a long-stay visa at the French consulate in Colombia before traveling.
Immigration officers rarely ask for proof of funds for Colombian passport holders, but they can. Have a bank statement or credit card available. A general guideline is about €65 per day of stay, but this is not strictly enforced.
You will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month validity is counted from your date of entry, not your departure.
Yes, you can enter via any Schengen country (e.g., Spain, Italy, Germany). The 90-day limit applies to the entire Schengen area, not just France. Your entry stamp will be from the first Schengen country you land in.
No, if you are transiting through a French airport (e.g., CDG) to a non-Schengen destination and do not leave the international transit area, you do not need a visa. But if you need to clear immigration (e.g., to switch terminals or stay overnight), the 90-day visa-free rule applies.
Report it immediately to the local police and get a police report. Then contact the Colombian embassy in Paris (57 Rue de la Pompe, 75116 Paris, +33 1 44 17 63 00) for an emergency travel document. You'll need a passport photo and the police report.
Technically, the visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits. Remote work for a foreign employer is in a gray area. France does not have a specific digital nomad visa. If you work occasionally, it's usually tolerated, but for regular work, you should check with the French consulate.
