Danish passport holders don't need a visa for short stays in France (up to 90 days in any 180-day period). This policy is tied to Denmark's EU membership and remains unchanged for 2026. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay in France
Your Danish passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in France. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required for Schengen entry. Airlines may still check for 6 months validity — carry a passport that covers your trip plus a reasonable buffer.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at French airports routinely asks for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines check this at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a bus or train ticket to a non-Schengen country also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
French border officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a signed attestation d'accueil from a French host covers this. Keep a copy on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
France officially requires €65 per day of stay (or €120 if no accommodation is prepaid). A bank statement or credit card with available limit usually satisfies the officer. I've never been asked for this as a Danish passport holder, but having a recent statement on your phone avoids hassle.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to all 27 Schengen countries combined, not just France. Days spent in Germany, Italy, Spain, etc., all count toward the same 90-day limit.
Passport validity check
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel — airlines may deny boarding.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Gather your passport, return ticket, first-night accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone and print backups if you want.
2
Arrive at French border control
At any French airport (CDG, Orly, Nice, etc.), join the 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present documents to the officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or accommodation booking.
4
Get your passport stamped
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. Check the stamp is legible — it's proof of how long you can stay. Keep it safe.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim and then customs. You're free to enter France.
