Valid passport
Must cover your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Kenya. No specific minimum validity beyond that is required, but airlines may enforce 6 months.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at JKIA will ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel bookings or a letter of invitation from your host in Kenya can speed up immigration. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry cash (USD or KES) or a credit card showing you can cover your stay. No fixed amount is specified, but around $200 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory
Do not show up at the airport without an approved eVisa. You will be denied boarding by the airline and sent back. Apply online at www.etakenya.go.ke at least a week before travel.
Keep documents accessible
Have your passport, eVisa approval, return ticket, and hotel booking easily reachable when you approach immigration. Officers may ask for any of these. A printed folder or a clear phone screenshot works.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa
Go to www.etakenya.go.ke, fill out the online form, upload a passport photo and passport scan, pay the fee (around $50 USD for single entry), and wait for approval. Processing usually takes 2-3 business days, but can be longer.
2
Pack Documents
Print your eVisa approval, passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. Also save digital copies on your phone.
3
Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Moi (Mombasa)
At immigration, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp valid for up to 90 days.
4
