Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Thailand
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from the day you leave Thailand. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa-free entry
Immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports check for a confirmed outbound ticket within 60 days. Budget airlines are especially strict — they verify this before issuing a boarding pass.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have on hand
Officers occasionally ask for a hotel booking or host invitation letter covering your stay. Have a printed or digital copy ready to avoid delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry evidence
The official requirement is 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family. Carry cash, a bank statement, or a travel card showing available funds — enforcement is rare but happens.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)TDAC
Optional online pre-registration
Register at tdac.immigration.go.th before your flight — it takes 2 minutes and gives you a QR code for a faster immigration lane. Not mandatory, but saves time at the queue.Register on TDACOptional
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before you board. If your passport has less than 6 months validity, you won't be allowed to fly. Renew early.
TDAC saves time at immigration
Complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card at tdac.immigration.go.th before you fly. At Suvarnabhumi, you'll get access to the e-gate lane — much faster than the regular queue.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you fly, check your passport validity (6+ months), book a return/onward ticket, and arrange first-night accommodation. Complete the TDAC online if you want to skip the paper queue.
2
Arrive at the airport in Thailand
At Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Phuket (HKT), follow signs to 'Passport Control' for foreign passports. Have your passport, boarding pass, and any supporting documents ready.
3
Queue at immigration
Join the 'Foreign Passport' queue. If you completed TDAC, you'll use the faster e-gate lane at BKK. Otherwise, hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will stamp you in for 60 days.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Thailand.
