Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Hong Kong passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Colombia. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers in Bogotá and Medellín will verify it on arrival.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Colombia
Immigration at El Dorado Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready — they won't let you through without one.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a friend in Colombia covers this — keep it on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Colombia doesn't publish a fixed amount, but having a credit card or bank statement with a few hundred dollars available is enough. Immigration rarely asks, but budget airlines sometimes do at check-in.Recommended
Check-Mig pre-registrationColombia's mandatory online pre-registration form at migracioncolombia.gov.co. Complete it within 72 hours before your flight — it takes under 5 minutes.
Mandatory online form before departure
You must complete the free Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. Fill in your passport details, flight info, and accommodation — it takes under 5 minutes. Save the QR code they email you; immigration scans it on arrival.Open Check-Mig formRequired
Check-Mig is mandatory — do it before you fly
Complete the free online form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours of your flight. Without it, you may be denied boarding or fined. Save the QR code on your phone.
Passport validity counts from entry, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Colombia. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel — even if your trip is shorter.

At Bogotá (El Dorado), Medellín, or Cartagena airports, follow signs to 'Migración' or 'Extranjeros'. Have your passport, boarding pass, and Check-Mig QR code ready.

4
Collect Luggage and Exit
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually a green (nothing to declare) and red (goods to declare) channel.
