Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Hong Kong passport needs to be valid for at least the full 180-day stay. Peru does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule, but airlines may ask for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Peru
Immigration officers at Jorge Chávez Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a flight booking out of Peru within 180 days works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have access to at least $500 USD in cash, a credit card, or a bank statement. Immigration may ask how you'll fund your trip — a quick screenshot of your balance suffices.Recommended
180 days is generous — but track your dates
Peru gives you a full 180 days, which is more than most countries. Mark your departure date on your calendar. Overstaying even by a day can cause problems.
Airline may check documents before boarding
Airlines flying from Hong Kong to Peru often check your passport validity and return ticket at check-in. If your passport is close to the 6-month mark, you might be denied boarding. Double-check before you go to the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM)
After landing in Lima, follow signs to 'Migraciones' (Immigration). Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport with up to 180 days. The process usually takes 10–20 minutes.
2
Prepare documents while queuing
While waiting, have your passport open to the photo page, and your return ticket and accommodation confirmation pulled up on your phone. This speeds things up and shows you're organised.
3
Receive entry stamp
The immigration officer will stamp your passport and may ask how long you plan to stay. Answer honestly. The stamp shows the date you must leave by. Count 180 days from your entry date to be safe.
