Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Croatian passport only needs to be valid for the length of your stay in Taiwan. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Taiwan
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Taoyuan Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Taiwan doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but carrying around NT$20,000 (€600) in cash or a credit card with a decent limit covers you for most questions.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Taiwan, not from your departure date. If it's close to expiring, renew before you travel.
No extension possible
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. If you need more time, you must apply for a visa before traveling or leave and re-enter. Overstaying leads to fines and potential bans.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or other entry point
Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Join the queue for visa-exempt arrivals. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present your passport and answer questions
The officer will scan your passport, take fingerprints (index fingers), and may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly.
3
Receive entry stamp and proceed
You'll get a stamp with the date of entry and the allowed stay (90 days). Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving. Then collect luggage and go through customs.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a visa (e.g., visitor visa) before traveling, or leave Taiwan and re-enter. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
No. Taiwan no longer requires paper arrival cards for visa-free travelers. Everything is electronic — your passport is scanned, and fingerprints are taken.
Same process. All international airports in Taiwan (Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, Taichung, Taipei Songshan) handle visa-free entries identically. Just follow the 'Foreign Passports' signs.
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, transit, or short-term visits. You cannot work or study. For work or study, you need the appropriate visa or work permit before arrival.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined NT$10,000–NT$50,000 (approx. €300–€1,500) depending on the length of overstay, and you may be banned from re-entering for a period. Leave before your 90 days are up.
No. If you're transiting and staying airside (not leaving the airport), you don't need a visa. If you want to leave the airport during a layover, the 90-day visa-free entry applies — just go through immigration as usual.
No fixed amount is required for visa-free entry. But if asked, you should be able to show you have enough funds for your stay (e.g., credit card, cash, or bank statement). A few hundred euros in cash or a card with a reasonable limit is fine.
