Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Thailand
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from the day you leave Thailand. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. Carry a photocopy of the bio page separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Thailand within 60 days
Immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Budget airlines are especially strict — they may deny boarding without one. The ticket must show you leave Thailand within the 60-day visa-free period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your first night's hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, you need a printed or digital copy showing your name and the property address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Minimum 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family
Carry cash in Thai baht, US dollars, or euros equivalent to 20,000 THB (about $550 USD) per person or 40,000 THB per family. Immigration can ask to see it at the counter — credit cards do not count.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)Thailand Digital Arrival Card — a free 2-minute online pre-registration at tdac.immigration.go.th. Not mandatory, but gets you through the immigration queue faster.
Optional online pre-registration
Fill in your passport, flight, and accommodation details at tdac.immigration.go.th before you fly. It takes 2 minutes and gives you a QR code that speeds you through the immigration queue at major airports.Register on TDACOptional
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines will deny boarding if your passport has less than 6 months validity from your entry date. This is the most common reason Hungarian travellers are turned away. Check your passport now.
TDAC saves time at immigration
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is free and optional, but completing it online before you fly means you skip the paper form queue. Do it at tdac.immigration.go.th up to 72 hours before arrival.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before flying
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Complete the TDAC online if you want to skip the paper form. Save everything as screenshots on your phone.
2
At the departure airport
The airline check-in agent will verify your passport validity and onward ticket. They may also ask for proof of accommodation. If you don't have a return ticket, you'll likely be denied boarding.
3
Arrival at Thai immigration
At Bangkok (BKK/DMK), Phuket, or Chiang Mai, follow signs to 'Foreign Passport' or 'Visa on Arrival' counters. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. If you completed TDAC, show the QR code (optional). The officer stamps you in for 60 days. No fee.
4
After immigration
Collect your luggage, then proceed to customs (green channel for nothing to declare). Exit into the arrivals hall. Your 60-day stay starts from the date of the entry stamp.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry for Hungarian passport holders is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Thailand and re-enter (land border or flight) to get another 60 days, or apply for a tourist visa (e.g., 60-day single entry) before travel.
Overstay costs 500 THB per day (about 14 EUR), capped at 20,000 THB. You'll also get an overstay stamp in your passport, which can cause issues for future Thai visas. If you overstay more than 90 days, you may be banned from re-entering for 1 year.
If you stay in the international transit area and don't pass immigration, no visa is needed. If you need to enter Thailand (e.g., to switch airports or stay overnight), the 60-day visa-free entry applies.
Yes, Hungarian passport holders can enter visa-free at land borders. You get 60 days per entry. Note that some land borders have limited hours — check before you go.
No, it's not required by immigration. However, it's strongly recommended. A hospital stay for something like dengue fever or a motorbike accident can cost 1,000+ EUR per day. Many travel insurance policies cover this for a few euros per day.
TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card) is an optional online form that replaces the paper arrival card. It's free at tdac.immigration.go.th. If you complete it before travel, you can skip the paper form at immigration and use a faster lane. Not mandatory, but saves time.
Officially, visa-free entry is for tourism only. Remote work for a foreign employer is in a grey area — technically not allowed, but rarely enforced for short stays. For longer stays or if you're concerned, consider a 'Digital Nomad Visa' (DTV) which allows remote work for up to 5 years.
