Iraqi passport holders need a visa to enter Nepal. You can apply for a tourist visa online in advance or get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. As of 2026, the online application is the smoother option.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Visa required
You need a visa before traveling to Nepal. Apply through the Nepal eVisa portal at least 3–5 working days before departure. The eVisa costs around $30 USD for a 15-day stay, $50 USD for 30 days, or $125 USD for 90 days — pay online and print the approval letter to show at immigration.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Nepal. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Tribhuvan International Airport routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — they will check the date matches your visa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number ready. This is not always checked, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Carry at least $50 USD per day in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look underprepared they may question your ability to support yourself.Recommended
Online application saves time
Applying for your visa online at https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np before you fly lets you skip the main visa-on-arrival queue at Kathmandu airport. You'll join a shorter 'Pre-approved Visa' line.
Cash only for visa on arrival
The visa-on-arrival counters at Tribhuvan International Airport only accept cash — USD, EUR, or NPR. Bring small bills. Credit cards are not accepted.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for visa online (recommended)
Go to https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np, fill out the tourist visa application, upload a passport photo, and pay the fee. You'll receive an approval email. Print it or save the PDF on your phone.
2
Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport
After landing in Kathmandu, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters. If you applied online, join the shorter 'Pre-approved Visa' queue. Show your passport, approval, and return ticket. Pay the visa fee (cash in USD, EUR, or NPR). You'll get a sticker in your passport.
3
Pass through immigration
Proceed to the immigration officer. Hand over your passport with the visa sticker. They may ask for your accommodation address and return ticket. Answer clearly. Once stamped, you're in.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. There's a customs check (green for nothing to declare, red for goods over the limit). Exit into the arrivals hall.
