Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply at the official Vietnam eVisa portal at evisa.xuatnhhapcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single entry or $50 USD for multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — do not book flights until you receive the approval letter.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Vietnam ready — they will check the date matches your eVisa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Vietnam. Immigration may ask for it if you look like you are staying with friends or family — a booking.com confirmation works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a bank statement showing at least $500 USD or the equivalent in VND. Immigration rarely asks, but if you arrive without a return ticket or clear plans, they may request proof you can support yourself.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
Iraqi passport holders cannot enter Vietnam without an approved eVisa. There is no visa on arrival or visa waiver. Apply online at least a week before your trip.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnamese eVisa portal (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page, and pay the fee (around $25 USD for single entry, $50 for multiple entry). Processing takes 3–5 working days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF via email. Print a paper copy and save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Before heading to the airport, gather: passport (6+ months validity), printed eVisa, return/onward ticket, hotel booking confirmation, and travel insurance details. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at a Vietnamese international airport
You can enter through any of Vietnam's international airports: Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang, Cam Ranh (Nha Trang), Cat Bi (Hai Phong), Can Tho, Phu Quoc, or Lien Khuong (Da Lat). Go to the 'Foreigners' or 'eVisa' lane at immigration.
5
Present documents at immigration
Hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer will check your details, stamp your passport, and let you through. No interview or extra forms needed.
