Italian passport holders can travel to Armenia visa-free for up to 180 days per year. No visa application is needed before you go — just show up with your passport and you'll get stamped in. This policy is in effect for 2026.
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Armenia. Border officers at Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan check this at the passport control booth. If your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding by the airline.
Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers at Yerevan's airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket before stamping you in. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. Budget airlines like Wizz Air also check this at check-in.
Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host in Armenia is enough. I've seen them wave people through without it, but having it speeds things up.
Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Armenia does not have a fixed minimum amount, but officers may ask how you plan to fund your trip. A credit card or a bank statement showing a few hundred USD is usually sufficient. I've never been asked for this personally, but it's better to have it.
Recommended
180 days per year, not per trip
The 180-day visa-free limit is cumulative across all your visits in a calendar year. If you've already spent 90 days in Armenia earlier in the year, you only have 90 days left on your next trip.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Armenia, not from your departure date. If your passport expires in 5 months, you'll be turned away.
What happens at the border
1
Arrive at Yerevan Zvartnots Airport
Most Italian travellers fly into Yerevan's main airport. Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Passport Control'.
2
Queue at the 'All Passports' counter
There's no separate EU line. Join the main queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
3
Hand over your passport
The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and hand it back. No forms to fill, no fee to pay.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel unless you have goods to declare.
Enter your arrival date and we'll tell you exactly when you need to leave.
