Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Taiwan
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay. Taiwan does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for Italian passport holders, but airlines may still check for at least 6 months — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Taiwan
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. A flight booking out of Taiwan within 90 days is enough — no need for a fully refundable ticket unless you want flexibility.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but having a printed booking confirmation avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing available funds. No fixed amount is published, but having at least 500 USD equivalent in cash or card access covers most scenarios.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Taiwan. If it expires sooner, renew it before your trip. Immigration will deny entry if your passport doesn't meet this requirement.
No visa needed — but have your documents ready
You don't need a visa, but immigration may ask for your onward ticket and accommodation. Keep digital copies on your phone. The process at Taoyuan Airport is usually quick — 5–15 minutes.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Print or save digital copies of your booking confirmations and travel insurance. Get a local SIM or eSIM so you have data on arrival.
2
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or Kaohsiung (KHH)
Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Arrivals'. Join the queue for visa-free entry. Have your passport, boarding pass, and onward ticket ready. The immigration officer will check your passport, take a photo, and stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 5–15 minutes.
3
Receive your entry stamp and 90-day stay
The officer will stamp your passport with your entry date and the date you must leave. Count 90 days from entry — don't overstay. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
4
Exit the airport
After immigration, collect your luggage and pass through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). Then you're free to enter Taiwan.
