What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa online
Go to gov.uk/apply-uk-visa and fill out the Standard Visitor visa application. You'll need to create an account, answer questions about your trip, and upload supporting documents.
2
Book and attend a biometric appointment
After submitting your application, book an appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) — in Amman, the VFS Global centre on Mecca Street. Bring your passport, appointment confirmation, and pay the biometric fee (around £19.20). You'll have your photo and fingerprints taken.
3
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 3 weeks, but can be longer during peak seasons. You can pay extra for priority (5 working days) or super-priority (next working day) if available. Track your application online.
4
Receive your passport with visa vignette
Once approved, your passport will be returned with a vignette sticker. Check the dates — the visa is usually valid for 6 months from the start date shown. If anything is wrong, contact UKVI immediately.
5
Travel to the UK
At UK border control (e.g., Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester), join the 'All Other Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer may ask about your plans — answer clearly and honestly.
