Kenyan passport holders can get a Visa on Arrival (VoA) when landing in Indonesia. It costs 500,000 IDR (about $32 USD) and is valid for 30 days. This has been the standard procedure since 2024 and remains the easiest way to enter for tourism.

Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at major Indonesian airports and seaports. Pay the fee in USD or IDR cash — $35 USD for 30 days. Have your return ticket and hotel booking printed out; immigration officers at Jakarta and Bali ask for both.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines at JKIA check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration at Soekarno-Hatta and Ngurah Rai always asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready. If you are flying out to a third country, that ticket works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a screenshot of your booking. Immigration officers in Bali and Jakarta often ask for it, especially if you are staying at a private address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial proof
Have a bank statement or cash showing at least $1,000 USD or equivalent. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look underprepared, they might request it.Recommended
Cash only for VoA
The Visa on Arrival fee must be paid in cash — no cards, no mobile payments. Bring 500,000 IDR in exact change. If you only have larger bills, you may have to wait for change or accept a poor exchange rate.
VoA is not extendable
The standard 30-day VoA cannot be extended. If you overstay, you'll be fined 1,000,000 IDR (about $65 USD) per day. For longer stays, apply for a B211A visa before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Land and follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'
After deplaning, follow the signs for 'Visa on Arrival' or 'VoA'. At major airports like Jakarta (CGK) or Bali (DPS), there are dedicated counters. You'll queue, pay the fee, and receive a visa sticker in your passport.
2
Proceed to immigration
After getting your VoA sticker, go to the immigration queue. Present your passport with the sticker, your boarding pass, and your onward ticket if asked. The officer will stamp you in for 30 days.
3
Collect baggage and exit
After immigration, collect your luggage and proceed through customs. You may be asked to fill out a customs declaration form (usually digital now). Keep your passport handy until you're outside the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

The VoA costs 500,000 Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), which is roughly $32 USD. You must pay in cash — no credit or debit cards. Bring exact change in IDR or USD to speed things up.
No, the VoA is not extendable. You must leave Indonesia within 30 days. If you need to stay longer, you'll need to apply for a different visa type before travel, such as a B211A social visa (which can be extended).
Immigration officers will likely ask for proof of onward travel. Without it, you may be denied entry. Book a refundable onward ticket or a cheap flight to a neighboring country (like Malaysia or Singapore) just in case.
VoA is available at major international airports: Jakarta (CGK), Bali (DPS), Surabaya (SUB), Medan (KNO), and a few others. Smaller airports may not offer VoA — check before you fly. If your airport doesn't offer it, you'll need a visa in advance.
As of 2025, Indonesia has no COVID-related entry requirements for tourists. No vaccine proof or test is needed. This could change, so check the Indonesian embassy website closer to your trip.
You will be denied boarding by the airline and denied entry by Indonesian immigration. Renew your passport before you travel. There are no exceptions.
No. Only cash is accepted at the VoA counter. Bring 500,000 IDR in exact change. Some counters may accept USD, but they'll give change in IDR at a poor rate. Best to have the exact amount in IDR.
