Be ready to show bank statements or a credit card showing at least €55 per day of your stay. Immigration officers rarely ask for this, but if they do, you need to prove you can cover accommodation and expenses.Recommended

Travel insurance is mandatory
Your visa application will be rejected without valid Schengen travel insurance covering at least €30,000 in medical expenses. Get it before your appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing is 15 calendar days, but it can take up to 45 days if your application needs extra checks. Apply at least 4-6 weeks before your travel date.
You fill out the application form online, but you must submit your documents in person at the embassy or a VFS Global centre in Kenya. There is no fully online e-visa for Kenyan passport holders.
The Schengen visa fee is €80 for adults (about KES 11,500) and €40 for children aged 6-12. Children under 6 are free. Additional service fees may apply at VFS centres.
A standard Schengen visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period. For longer stays (e.g., work, study, family reunion), you need a national long-stay visa (MVV) — apply at the embassy before travel.
If you are transiting through a Dutch airport to a non-Schengen country and do not leave the international transit area, you generally do not need a visa. However, if you need to enter the Schengen area (e.g., to switch airports), you will need a visa.
Extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances, such as force majeure or humanitarian reasons. You must apply at the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) before your visa expires. Extensions are not given for tourism.
You need: a completed application form, your passport (valid 6+ months), two recent passport photos, flight itinerary, accommodation proof, travel insurance, bank statements (last 3 months), and a cover letter explaining your trip. Additional documents may be requested.
