Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Indonesia. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Indonesia
Immigration officers at Jakarta, Bali, and other airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket within 30 days. If you don't have one, they may deny entry or put you on the next flight out.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask where you're staying — have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. A simple booking printout or screenshot works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Officers occasionally ask to see cash or bank statements showing you can support yourself. Have at least $500 USD or equivalent in IDR available — credit cards are accepted but cash is preferred.Recommended
No extension possible
The 30-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. If you need more time, get a Visa on Arrival (VoA) at the airport instead — it costs 500,000 IDR and can be extended once.
Overstay fines are steep
Overstaying even one day costs 1,000,000 IDR (about $65 USD). Pay at immigration before your flight. Don't risk it — set a calendar reminder.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Indonesian airport
You'll land at one of the main international airports: Jakarta (CGK), Bali (DPS), Surabaya (SUB), or others. Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Foreign Passport Holders'.
2
Queue at immigration counter
Join the line for foreign passports. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Indonesia.
