Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Singapore
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from the day you leave Singapore. Immigration officers at Changi Airport check this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding by the airline.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Singapore
You need a confirmed onward or return ticket showing you'll leave Singapore within 30 days. Budget airlines like Scoot and AirAsia check this at check-in — if you don't have one, they won't let you board.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Singapore ready. Immigration officers at Changi sometimes ask for it, especially if you're staying more than a week.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry at least SGD 1,000 (or equivalent in cash, traveler's cheques, or a bank statement) to cover your stay. Immigration officers rarely ask, but if you can't show funds, they can deny entry.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If it's less than 6 months from your arrival date, you will not be allowed to board. No exceptions.
Keep a digital copy of your documents
Save photos of your passport, return ticket, and hotel booking on your phone. If you lose your passport, these copies make replacement at the embassy much faster.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Changi Airport
You'll land at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Foreign Passports'.
2
Queue at immigration counter
Join the queue for foreign passport holders. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready. The officer will scan your passport, take a fingerprint (usually index finger), and may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visit pass. Check the stamp — it shows the exact date you must leave. If you need more time, you can apply for an extension later.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's nothing to declare for personal items. Exit into the arrival hall.

You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Singapore immigration. Renew your passport before you travel. No exceptions.
No. The 30-day visa-free entry is strictly for tourism, business meetings, or short family visits. If you plan to work or study, you must apply for the appropriate work pass or student pass before you arrive.
No, Singapore no longer requires a paper arrival card for most nationalities. However, you may be asked to submit an electronic health declaration if you're arriving from a country with an ongoing disease outbreak. Check the ICA website before you fly.
Overstaying is a serious offence. You could be fined up to SGD 1,000, imprisoned for up to 3 months, or both. You may also be banned from re-entering Singapore for a period. Always apply for an extension before your pass expires.
Yes, the same visa-free rules apply if you cross the Causeway from Johor Bahru, Malaysia. You'll go through immigration at the Woodlands Checkpoint. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
