No visa on arrival — don't risk it
Lao passport holders cannot get a visa at any South Korean airport. If you arrive without a visa, you'll be refused entry and put on the next flight back at your own expense. Always get the visa before you fly.
Passport validity is strict
South Korean immigration enforces the 6-month passport validity rule without exception. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding even if you have a valid visa. Check your passport's expiry date before booking anything.
Apply in person — no shortcuts
There is no eVisa or online application for Lao citizens. You must submit your application in person at the South Korean embassy in Vientiane. Plan a trip to the capital and bring all your documents — missing paperwork means a wasted trip.

What happens at the border

1
Gather your documents
Collect all the required paperwork: passport, photo, application form, flight and hotel bookings, bank statements, and employment letter. Make copies of everything — the embassy will keep the originals of some documents.
2
Submit your application at the embassy
Take your completed application and documents to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vientiane (or the consulate that covers your area). You must apply in person — no mail-in or online applications for Lao citizens. The embassy address is typically on the visa section of their website; check their hours before going.
3
Wait for processing
Processing usually takes 5–10 working days, but can be longer during peak seasons. You'll be told when to return to collect your passport. Don't book non-refundable flights until you have the visa in hand.
4
Collect your passport with the visa
Return to the embassy with your receipt to pick up your passport. Check the visa sticker carefully — make sure your name, passport number, and validity dates are correct. If anything's wrong, tell the officer immediately.
5
Arrive in South Korea
At the airport (Incheon, Gimhae, etc.), go to the 'Foreign Passport' queue. Have your passport and visa ready. The officer may ask about your trip — answer honestly. You'll get an entry stamp, and you're in.

Transiting through South Korea

Transit visa required

Laos passport holders require a visa to enter South Korea, including for transit if they will pass through immigration. However, if you remain airside (do not pass immigration) and have a confirmed onward ticket, you may transit without a visa for up to 24 hours at Incheon, Gimpo, Gimhae, and Jeju airports.

Exceptions & conditions
  • Transit without visa is allowed only for airside transit (no entry into Korea) at designated airports.
  • If you need to change airports (e.g., Incheon to Gimpo) or leave the transit area, you must obtain a visa in advance.
  • Some nationalities are eligible for the Korea K-ETA, but Laos is not on the K-ETA eligible list; a visa is required for any entry.
