Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Laos passport holders need a visa for Taiwan. Apply online at the Taiwan eVisa Portal at least 7 days before departure. The eVisa allows a single entry with a maximum stay of 30 days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the full duration of your stay in Taiwan. Taiwan does not enforce the 6-month validity rule for all nationalities, but airlines may check it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Taiwan. Officers may ask for it at the border, especially if you don't have a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry at least 20,000 TWD in cash or have a bank statement showing you can cover your stay. Immigration rarely checks this for short visits, but it helps if asked.Recommended
No visa on arrival — apply before you fly
Lao passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport. You must apply online and receive approval before departure. Airlines will check this before letting you board.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Taiwan, not from the day you apply. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa online
Go to the Taiwan Visa Application Portal (visawebapp.boca.gov.tw), create an account, fill in the form, upload your passport scan and photo, and pay the fee. Processing takes 5–10 working days.
2
Receive your visa approval
Once approved, you'll get a visa certificate via email. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Before heading to the airport, double-check: passport validity (6+ months), printed visa approval, return ticket, and first night hotel booking. Save screenshots of everything.
4
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
At immigration, present your passport, visa approval, and boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. After clearance, collect your luggage and proceed to customs.
