Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Sri Lankan passport holders need an eVisa to enter South Korea. Apply at the official Korea eVisa portal at least 2 weeks before departure. Processing takes 5–7 business days, and you must print the approval letter to show at check-in and immigration.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in South Korea. Airlines may enforce a 6-month validity rule at check-in, but Korean immigration only requires validity through your departure date.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Incheon and Gimpo airports routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within your eVisa's validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter from your host in South Korea. Immigration may ask where you're staying, and having a printed booking speeds up the process.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least ₩1,000,000 (about $750 USD) in cash, a bank statement, or a credit card with available limit. Immigration rarely checks, but budget airlines sometimes ask at check-in.Recommended
Apply early — no rush service
The eVisa takes 5–10 business days and there is no expedited option. If you apply less than a week before departure, you risk missing your flight. Plan ahead.
Keep your eVisa printout handy
At check-in in Colombo and at immigration in Korea, you'll need to show your eVisa approval. A digital copy on your phone is accepted, but a printout is more reliable if your phone battery dies.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to www.visa.go.kr, create an account, fill in the application form, upload your photo and passport scan, and pay the fee (approx. $40 USD). Processing takes 5–10 business days. You'll receive an approval email — print it and save a copy on your phone.
2
Pack your documents
Before heading to the airport, gather: your passport, printed eVisa approval, return flight booking, first night hotel confirmation, and travel insurance certificate. Keep them in your carry-on.
3
At Colombo airport check-in
The airline will check your eVisa approval before issuing a boarding pass. Show them your printed eVisa and passport. They may also ask for your return ticket.
4
Arrival at Incheon or Gimpo
Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and arrival card (given on the plane) ready. The officer will scan your passport, stamp it, and wave you through. No separate visa sticker is issued.
