eTA is mandatory — no exceptions
You cannot get a visa on arrival at Kenyan airports. The only way in is with an approved eTA. Apply online at www.etakenya.go.ke at least a week before your flight.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Kenya, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it first.
What happens at the border

Apply for eTA online
Go to www.etakenya.go.ke, create an account, fill in your personal and travel details, upload your passport scan and photo, and pay the fee (around $30 USD). Processing takes 2–3 business days, sometimes faster. Do this at least a week before your flight.

Pack your documents
Save your approved eTA, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation as screenshots or PDFs on your phone. Also have a printed copy of your eTA just in case.

Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Moi International (Mombasa)
At immigration, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and eTA printout (or show on phone). The officer will ask a few questions — purpose of visit, where you're staying, when you leave. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp valid for up to 90 days.

Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel, then proceed through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're in.
