Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Libyan passport holders need an eVisa to enter Vietnam. Apply at the official Vietnam eVisa portal (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn) — the fee is $25 USD for single or multiple entry, valid up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready — they will check the date matches your eVisa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Vietnam. Officers at immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing at least $500 USD available. Immigration rarely asks, but budget airlines sometimes check at check-in for Vietnam-bound flights.Recommended
eVisa is single entry only
Your eVisa allows one entry into Vietnam. If you leave (even for a day trip to Cambodia or Laos), you'll need a new eVisa to re-enter.
Print your eVisa in colour
Vietnamese immigration officers expect a colour printout. Black and white copies may be rejected. Keep a digital copy on your phone as backup.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnamese eVisa portal (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) with a credit or debit card. Processing takes 3–5 working days.
2
Receive and print eVisa
You'll get an email with your eVisa approval letter. Print it in colour — black and white may be rejected. Keep a digital copy on your phone as backup.
3
Pack your documents
Put your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket confirmation, and hotel booking in a clear folder. Have them ready before you reach the immigration counter.
4
Arrive at Vietnam airport
At the airport, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout, and boarding pass. The officer will check, stamp, and return your passport. This usually takes 2–5 minutes.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now in Vietnam.
