Mexican passport holders need an eVisa to visit India for tourism, business, or medical purposes. As of 2026, the eVisa is valid for 30 days, 1 year, or 5 years depending on the type. You must apply online before traveling — no embassy visit needed. Just fill out the form, upload a photo and passport scan, and pay the fee.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for an Indian eVisa at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure. Fees range from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (tourist, business, medical). Approval usually comes within 72 hours — print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Mexican passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from India. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from India
Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave India within your eVisa's validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in India. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you're arriving without a pre-booked itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough funds for your stay. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, they expect to see at least $50 USD per day of your trip.Recommended
eVisa is not valid at land borders
You cannot enter India by land (e.g., from Nepal or Pakistan) with an eVisa. You must fly into one of the designated airports or seaports. If you plan to cross by land, you need a regular paper visa from an Indian embassy.
Register with FRRO if staying more than 180 days
If you hold a 1-year or 5-year eVisa and stay more than 180 days in a single visit, you must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival. This is not common for short trips.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to indianvisaonline.gov.in, fill out the application, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $10–$80 depending on duration and nationality). Processing takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive eVisa approval by email
Once approved, you'll get an email with an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Print it or save it on your phone. The eVisa is linked to your passport number — no sticker needed.
3
Arrive at an Indian airport with eVisa facility
eVisa is valid at 28 airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Goa. At immigration, go to the 'e-Visa' counter. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. They'll scan your fingerprints and take a photo.
4
Get stamped and collect luggage
The officer will stamp your passport with your entry date and allowed stay. For a 30-day eVisa, you get 30 days from entry. For 1-year or 5-year eVisas, you can stay up to 90 days per visit (180 days for business).
