Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into the UAE. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the UAE
Immigration officers at Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they want to see you leave within the 30-day visa-free window.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host's address
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their Emirates ID number. Officers at the counter sometimes ask where you're staying — having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or credit card for your stay
Have a credit card or around 3,000 AED in cash available. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look under-prepared they may request proof you can cover your stay.Recommended
Overstay fines add up fast
The UAE charges 50 AED per day for overstaying. If you're even one day late, you'll pay 50 AED at the airport. Set a reminder on your phone for day 25 to avoid forgetting.
eSIM saves time at the airport
Instead of queuing for a local SIM at the airport, buy an Airalo eSIM before you fly. It activates automatically when you land, so you have data immediately for maps, ride-hailing, and WhatsApp.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Before you fly, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), a printed or digital copy of your return/onward ticket, and your first night's accommodation confirmation. Save screenshots on your phone in case you have no signal at immigration.
2
Arrive at a UAE airport
You'll land at Dubai International (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH), or Sharjah (SHJ). Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Passport Control' (also called Immigration).
3
Queue at the immigration counter
Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. When it's your turn, hand over your passport. The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying?' and 'Where are you staying?' Answer clearly and briefly.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. No fee is charged. The stamp shows the date of entry and the expiry date. Count 30 days from entry — don't overstay.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're now free to enter the UAE.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry for Malaysian passport holders is not extendable. You must leave the UAE before the 30 days expire. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a different visa type (e.g., a tourist visa through a sponsor or hotel) before your current stay ends.

No. The visa-free entry is strictly for tourism, transit, or short business meetings (like attending a conference). You cannot take up employment or engage in paid work. For work, you need a proper employment visa sponsored by a UAE employer.
No, there is no official requirement to show proof of funds for Malaysian passport holders. However, immigration officers may ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Having a credit card or a few hundred dirhams in cash is sensible.
Yes, the visa-free entry applies at all UAE entry points — airports, land borders (e.g., from Oman or Saudi Arabia), and seaports. The same 30-day limit and requirements apply.
No, there is no visa on arrival for Malaysian passport holders beyond the 30-day visa-free period. For longer stays, you must apply for a tourist visa (typically 30 or 90 days) through a UAE airline, hotel, or travel agent before traveling.
