Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-Visa online
Go to the official Indian e-Visa website (indianvisaonline.gov.in). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-sized photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $10–$25 USD depending on duration). Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the approved e-Visa by email.
2
Prepare your documents
Print or save on your phone: the e-Visa approval email, your passport, return ticket, and first night hotel booking. Keep them together in a folder or a clear plastic sleeve.
3
Arrival at Indian airport
At immigration, join the 'e-Visa' queue (usually separate from regular visa holders). Hand over your passport and e-Visa printout. The officer may ask for your return ticket or hotel address. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport and you're in.
4
Collect baggage and exit
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel. Then proceed to customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Exit into the arrivals hall.
