Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Nepal. Airlines at Kuala Lumpur International Airport will check this before boarding — no exceptions.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a bus/train ticket out of Nepal ready. Without it, you may be denied boarding in Kuala Lumpur.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or trekking permit
Carry a printed hotel reservation or trekking agency confirmation for your first few nights. If you're trekking, a TIMS card or ACAP permit serves as proof of accommodation in the mountains.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Immigration may ask how you'll fund your stay. Carry at least $200 USD equivalent in cash (Nepali rupees or USD) or show a recent bank statement. ATMs are plentiful in Kathmandu but unreliable in remote areas.Recommended
Cash only at immigration
The visa fee must be paid in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR). Credit cards are not accepted. Have the exact amount ready to avoid delays.
Visa on arrival is straightforward
The process at Kathmandu airport is well-organized with self-service kiosks. Most people complete it in 15-30 minutes. Land borders may take longer.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration
At Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. There are two queues: one for visa application, one for payment. At land borders (e.g., Kakarbhitta, Sunauli), the process is similar but may be slower.
2
Fill out the application form
Use the self-service kiosks (at Kathmandu airport) or fill out a paper form. You'll need your passport details, flight info, and accommodation address. Keep the receipt.
3
Pay the visa fee
Pay at the designated counter. Fees: 15 days = USD 30, 30 days = USD 50, 90 days = USD 125. Cash only (USD, EUR, or NPR). Get a receipt.
4
Submit documents and get visa
Hand your passport, application form, payment receipt, and passport photo to the immigration officer. They'll process it and return your passport with the visa sticker. Collect your luggage and proceed to customs.
