Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Turkey
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the full duration of your 90-day stay. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers at Istanbul Airport will deny boarding if your passport expires before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Turkey
Immigration at Istanbul Airport and Antalya Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket within 90 days. Budget carriers like Pegasus and SunExpress enforce this strictly at check-in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers occasionally ask for a hotel reservation or an invitation letter from a host. Have a printed or digital booking confirmation ready for your first few nights.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Border officers may ask for bank statements or cash to confirm you have enough money for your stay. A credit card and a recent bank statement usually satisfy the request.Recommended
90-day limit resets after 180 days
The 90-day visa-free stay is calculated within any rolling 180-day period. If you stay 90 days, you must leave and cannot re-enter for another 90 days. The clock resets only after 180 days from your first entry.
Overstaying is expensive
Overstaying even a day can result in fines (50-100 Turkish Lira per day) and a re-entry ban of up to 5 years. Set a reminder to leave a few days before your 90 days are up.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport in Turkey
Go through passport control at Istanbul Airport (IST), Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), or any other entry point. Join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport ready.
2
Present your passport to the officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and the allowed stay (90 days). No visa, no fee, no forms.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items.
