Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Malaysia eVisa at the official Window Malaysia portal. Processing takes 1–3 working days. Print the eVisa approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration will stamp the visa on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your Nigerian passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Malaysia. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Malaysia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready. Without one, you risk being denied entry and sent back on the next flight.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Malaysia. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having a booking ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have bank statements or cash equivalent to at least 500 USD (or 2,000 MYR) for your stay. Immigration rarely checks this for short visits, but it helps to have evidence ready.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding — if it expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. No exceptions.
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
Nigeria is a yellow fever endemic country. You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at entry. Without it, you risk denial of entry or quarantine. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
eVisa is the easiest option
Apply online at windowmalaysia.my. Processing takes 1–3 working days. Cost is MYR 200 (~$45 USD). Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport. No need to visit an embassy.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to https://www.windowmalaysia.my and fill out the application. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the MYR 200 (~$45 USD) fee by credit card. You'll get a confirmation email. Processing takes 1–3 working days. Print the approval letter once it arrives.
2
Prepare your documents for departure
Before heading to the airport, double-check: passport valid for 6+ months from entry date, printed eVisa approval, return ticket (printed or on phone), and first night's hotel booking. Also have a copy of your bank statement or cash ready, just in case.
3
Arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) or other entry point
At immigration, join the foreign passport queue. Have your passport, eVisa approval letter, and return ticket ready. The officer may ask where you're staying and how long you'll be in Malaysia. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a visa valid for up to 30 days. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Exit and enjoy your stay
Once stamped, collect your luggage and proceed through customs. If you're staying longer than 30 days, you'll need to apply for an extension at an immigration office before your visa expires. Otherwise, just enjoy Malaysia.
