What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa at the Japanese embassy in Lima
Go to the Embassy of Japan in Lima (Av. San Felipe 356, Jesús María) with your completed application form, passport, photo, flight itinerary, and hotel booking. Submit during working hours (Mon–Fri, 9:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00). Processing takes 5–10 business days.
2
Wait for visa approval
The embassy will process your application and notify you when it's ready. You can pick up your passport in person or have it mailed back if you arranged that. Check the visa sticker for your allowed stay duration and entry validity.
3
Book your flight and accommodation
Once you have the visa, book a round-trip flight and your first night's accommodation. Keep digital copies of both — immigration at Narita, Haneda, Kansai, or other airports may ask to see them.
4
Register on Visit Japan Web (optional)
Go to https://vjw-lp.digital.go.jp and fill in your passport, flight, and customs details. You'll get a QR code that lets you skip the paper forms at immigration. Do this up to 2 weeks before your flight.
5
Arrive in Japan and go through immigration
At the airport, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport with visa sticker, boarding pass, and (if you registered) your Visit Japan Web QR code ready. The officer will take your photo and fingerprints. You'll get a landing permission stamp with your allowed stay.
