Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Taiwan. Taiwan does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but your airline might — check with them before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Officers may ask where you are staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a recent bank statement or enough cash/credit to cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum, but showing you can support yourself avoids delays.Recommended
Airline may enforce 6-month passport validity
Taiwan doesn't require 6 months of passport validity, but some airlines do. Check with your airline before departure to avoid being denied boarding.
Travel insurance strongly recommended
Taiwan has excellent healthcare, but costs can be high for uninsured visitors. A hospital stay can cost hundreds of dollars per day. Get travel insurance that covers medical expenses and emergency evacuation.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the Taiwan eVisa Portal (visawebapp.boca.gov.tw). Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the TWD 1,600 (~USD 55) fee. Processing takes 2–5 working days. You'll receive the approval by email — print it out.
2
Prepare your documents
Before heading to the airport, gather: your passport (valid for your entire stay), the printed eVisa approval, a return or onward ticket (printed or on your phone), and a hotel booking or host invitation. Also have a bank statement or credit card ready in case immigration asks.
3

At immigration, join the 'Foreigners' queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa approval. The officer may ask for your return ticket and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 30-day stay. Collect your luggage and head out.
4
During your stay
If you need to extend your stay beyond 30 days, visit a National Immigration Agency (NIA) office before your current stay expires. The fee is TWD 300 (~USD 10) per extension. Extensions are not guaranteed — apply early.
